Case Study
Requirement:
Set up in 2000, as the English National Association division of British Canoe Union (BCU), Canoe England supports the development of Canoeing in England. As part of the BCU federation they also approached Creative Jar to redesign and build them a brand new website to also launch in time for the Beijing Olympic games in August 08. The requirement included web design, a content management solution and hosting.
Creative:
Working closely with their marketing team a detailed wire frames & functional specification was put together highlighting all of the key deliverables and all of the interfacing involved. With thousands of members and a wealth of web features the website needed to be easy to use and engaging. Retention of members and visitors was key - the new design hugely improved the visual identity and member user experience making for a smooth and highly effective and informative user experience.
Technical:
The web development remit was to deliver a well structured XHTML/CSS compliant website. With a completely custom built back office and content management system and CRM built on the latest .NET 3.5 framework and using many of the latest data access layer features (LINQ to SQL). The solution is hosted on a Windows server 2003, utilizing SQL server 2005 database functionality. The content management system is a bespoke feature rich system allowing full and flexible control of content, content structure and all related assets. With a very active membership community, a forum was also introduced using out-the-box forum software, based on .NET 2.0 framework and SQL Server 2005. Making extensive use of the .NET Roles functionality, this s a very robust and effective solution.
Website Success:
The client thinks the new site design and functionality is excellent. Traffic to the site has more than doubled month on month since launch and visitor loyalty to the site continues to grow. 2009 looks to be a hugely successful year for Canoe England and we look forward to being at their side for this growth.
